Successful Conclusion of 2026 2nd International Conference on Urban Environmental Pollution Monitoring and Remediation

October 10, 2026 – The 2026 2nd International Conference on Urban Environmental Pollution Monitoring and Remediation (UEPMR 2026) successfully concluded, bringing together experts and researchers from across the globe online. With the support of four partner institutions — Hebei University of Technology, Huaibei Normal University, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and SRH University, Germany — the conference served as a pivotal platform for sharing cutting-edge research and innovative solutions to urban environmental challenges.

The conference opened with a warm welcome address from the organizing committee, setting the stage for a rich program that brought together leading voices in environmental science, engineering, and policy. The conveners highlighted the growing urgency of advancing pollution monitoring technologies, ecological restoration solutions, and new material applications in response to the rapid urbanization of the 21st century.

The conference featured insightful keynote presentations from three distinguished scholars:

Professor Youtao Song from Tianjin University of Science and Technology, China, elaborated on "Research on the Value Realization Path of Ecological Products Based on High-Value Utilization of the Biomass Energy Plant Arundo donax," exploring how a perennial high-efficiency energy plant can drive biomass-based emission reduction and serve as a nature-based solution for urban pollution remediation and saline-alkali soil restoration.

  • Professor Chunyang Chen from Suzhou University of Science and Technology provided an "Online Monitoring Technology for Emerging Contaminants Based on Optical Signals," introducing a portable monitoring system that integrates reversible sensing chips for rapid, on-site detection of pyrethroids and other emerging contaminants within minutes.

  • Professor Yap Chee Kong from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, discussed "Urban Aquatic Pollution Monitoring Using Edible Freshwater Biota: Biomonitoring of Potentially Toxic Metals and Human Health Risk Implications in Peninsular Malaysia," highlighting how transplanted freshwater clams can serve as sensitive indicators of trace-metal contamination in urban waterways.

A series of engaging oral presentations further enriched the scientific discourse. Six researchers from Fujian Normal University, Chang'an University, Xizang University, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Tongji University, and Qufu Normal University shared their latest work on a wide range of topics, spanning toxicological mechanisms and microbial degradation of environmental pollutants, photocatalytic lignin valorization, socio-economic driving factors of wastewater discharge in Tibet, the process performance and electric-field regulation of conductive ceramic membrane bioreactors, induced-fluorescence-based rapid detection of chlorinated hydrocarbons in soil, and the in-situ ecological restoration evaluation of constructed wetlands.
